Todd Phillips’ Joker movie is great in a lot of ways, but its biggest problem is similar to Game of Thrones season 8. Starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, the man who becomes the Clown Prince of Crime in Gotham City, Joker is unlike any other comic book movie before it, sharing more DNA with the works of Martin Scorsese than it does DC Comics. Phoenix is rightly being hailed for his performance, which isn’t only one of the best versions of the Joker committed to screen, but is also likely to land him an Oscar nomination....

Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has released a new report further forecasting that the 2017 iPhone will likely adopt and glass front and back design like the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. The idea seems to be that the new Jet Black iPhone 7 has proved highly popular with customers due to the appeal of its glossy finish, and glass would make it much less scratch prone; Apple has recommended customers use a case with the glossy aluminum model to avoid ‘micro abrasions’ from general usage....

Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming film slate for 2017 includes more shared universe installments (not all of them of the DC superhero variety), as well as a potential franchise starter in the form of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. The King Arthur retelling is co-written and directed by Guy Ritchie (Sherlock Holmes, The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) and stars Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim) as a young Arthur - who, in this version of the legend, has been living for years as a member of a street gang, when he then pulls Excalibur from the stone and discovers the truth about his noble destiny....

Korean news site MK Business News (via Reuters) is reporting that Samsung will make 75% of the A9 chip for the next iPhone. This matches an earlier detailed prediction by KGI Research, which stated that the balance of the chips would be made by Global Foundry, and is in line with a statement by Samsung which last year confirmed it as a major supplier of the new chip. The Samsung-fabbed chips will, says the report, be made in the USA … MK Business News says that Samsung will make the chips in its plant in Austin, Texas....

Zack Snyder has urged fans not to give up hope regarding his version of Justice League. The ambitious team-up movie was originally designed to be part one of a two-part story. One which would have pit various DC Comics heroes against the otherworldly forces of Darkseid. Following Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, the DCEU installment was set to be directed by Snyder and pay off numerous threads from previous adventures....

Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out today with a new note highlighting his predictions for the 2020 iPhone lineup including the all-new form factor. He also shares predictions for how this year’s lineup should leverage ultra-wideband radio tech to improve indoor navigation with a new generation of iBeacons. Kuo’s note today includes his prediction of the biggest selling points for the 2020 iPhone lineup. He lists three key improvements: “(1) all-new form factor design, (2) 5G support, and (3) camera function upgrades....

With the overall success of Joker, perhaps its time for studios to leave the shared universe formula that has worked so well for Marvel (and not DC), and return to more individual led stories by unique storytellers. For all that has been said about Todd Phillips during Joker’s run, you have to admit that he had a distinct vision and committed to it. Now, hopefully, even better filmmakers (with more original taste and ideas) can attempt their own one-off superhero films....

Apple’s Tim Cook and Craig Federighi have been ordered to testify in the company’s ongoing legal battle with Epic Games. New court filings this week indicate that Epic is making a long list of requests for documents and testimonies from Apple, and Apple argues that these requests will place a large burden on the company. Well known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who now works for TF International Securities, believes that Apple’s future growth will depend on the release of Apple Car and AR glasses, in addition to the company’s consistently growing services business. The analyst says that the Apple Car will launch sometime in 2023-2025. Apple’s car hardware has been rumored for quite sometime now, dating back half a decade. The rumors have fluctuated over the years with some noting that Apple is purely focused on software and licensing its autonomous software to third-party manufacturers, similar to how CarPlay works, while others note that Apple is still very much focused on creating both the hardware and software experience, which is what Kuo is suggesting here....

We’re likely just a few weeks away from Apple’s iPhone event, and Ming-Chi Kuo has released his latest predictions. The supply chain analyst echoes his long-running prediction of three new iPhones announced during the week of September 9, but Kuo believes only the two OLED models will actually be released next month. Citing its production schedule, Kuo predictions that the 6.1-inch iPhone, expected to be the entry-priced model in the flagship lineup, will indeed ship “slightly later” than the two OLED models that Kuo says will be available in September....
