Joker’s Joaquin Phoenix was arrested while protesting climate change in DC. Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme has passed away at age 73. Demme, who nabbed the Best Director Oscar for helming the chilling 1991 crime drama, launched his directorial career in 1974 with Caged Heat, under the auspices of legendary B-movie producer Roger Corman. In addition to Silence of the Lambs, Demme directed such acclaimed films as Philadelphia, Something Wild and Swing Shift. His last feature film was Ricki and the Flash in 2015....

Jordan Peele has waded into the ongoing Martin Scorsese versus Marvel debate, stating that he wants to see more original movies in theaters, too. The conversation surrounding the issue has grown substantially ever since Martin Scorsese initiated it last month. Originally, Scorsese was quoted as saying that Marvel movies weren’t cinema, but The Irishman director eventually said that his initial comments were misquoted. Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown has returned to social media where he explained the negativity that led to him taking his social media hiatus. Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities is today out with a new investor note offering more color on the new iPhone models coming later this year. Kuo predicts that Apple’s decision to bring the iPhone X design to additional models will cause an increase in sales, while also offering more information on specifications… The analyst says the 6.1-inch LCD iPhone will feature a single rear camera design, as opposed to the dual-camera design of the other two models....

Samsung launched a smartphone with face-recognition ahead of Apple, but its efforts to date have been far from impressive as they are only 2D. Even the latest Samsung iteration can be fooled by both photos and videos, but that may be set to change … A Korean report (via the Korea Herald) says that Samsung has some suppliers working on a 3D system which may offer similar levels of security to Apple’s Face ID....

Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs was known for being vocal when it came to talking about Google’s Android. Comments from Jobs referring to Android as a stolen product and vowing to destroy it even made it into Walter Isaacson’s official biography about the chief. Now, a judge presiding in a patent case with Motorola ruled that he would allow the comments to be referenced in trial, which goes against requests from Apple’s lawyers....

When it comes to blockbuster films, it’s always better to have the speculations go on a little while before the release date arrives. Since there’s a wide amount of possibilities that can be seen in the final product, it makes sense to come up with several scenarios. In the case of Jurassic World: Dominion, we’ve had almost thirty years’ worth of storylines to derive from. The previous two films have set up the final film in the series well, and with characters from the original trilogy returning, we just might see these 10 storylines become canonical....
