The Cambridge Union Society announced that Jony Ive had won its Stephen Hawking Fellowship award earlier this year. As part of the accolade, Ive recently delivered a lecture at Cambridge University’s Union hall. Ive shared a variety of interesting ideas, but one in particular was the absurdity and importance of switching back and forth between a creative mindset and a problem solving perspective. Ive’s lecture is only the second to come from the Stephen Hawking Fellowship, with the inaugural speech being given by the late professor last year....

Avengers: Endgame’s three-hour runtime is the least interesting thing about the film, according to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. If ever there was a tentpole that demanded a long runtime (be it three hours or more), it would certainly be Endgame. The sequel serves as the culmination of eleven years and more than twenty films’ worth of storytelling, starting with the original Iron Man and carrying on through to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War....

Kuo today said that Apple plans to upgrade the front camera in the 2019 iPhones from 7-megapixels to 12-megapixels. He also said that the much rumored triple-camera system will come to the 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch OLED iPhones, adding a brand new super-wide 12-megapixel lens. Both the super-wide and front camera lenses will be specially coated in black, to make them blend in better with the surrounding bezel for an ‘inconspicuous’ look....

Joker was a phenomenal box office success for Warner Bros., but the studio won’t be able to take all of the profits. It’s safe to say more than a few eyebrows were raised when it was initially announced WB was developing a standalone Joker origin movie entirely separate from the established DC Extended Universe. However, the film proved the skeptics wrong and became one of the biggest commercial hits of the year....

Joker’s Arthur Fleck might not be the villain’s final incarnation. As the Clown Prince of Crime’s legacy continues to grow and thrive with every passing year, the character has arguably become the most widely recognizable comic book villain of all time. Exactly why that is, however, is a difficult answer to pin down. Perhaps it could be attributable to Joker’s disdain for Batman over the years. Little America, an anthology series depicting the lives of immigrants, premiered on Apple+ last month and has already been renewed for a second season. Based on a collection of true stories from Epic Magazine, the show is produced by the talented husband and wife duo of Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon (The Big Sick) Aside from executive producing, they also co-wrote episode 7, “The Rock”, alongside fellow producer Lee Eisenberg....

The latest poster for Jordan Peele’s Us was released online. The new movie from the Get Out filmmaker centers on the Wilson family who are enjoying an idyllic summer getaway when they’re confronted by mysterious figures at their vacation home. As for the poster itself? It’s pure nightmare fuel. Expected to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Us is set along the iconic Northern California coastline. The film stars Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o as Adelaide Wilson, a woman returning to her beachside childhood home with her husband, Gabe, who is played by Black Panther’s Winston Duke, and their two children for a summer vacation....

Rhys Darby is reprising his Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle role as the NPC and players’ guide Nigel in Sony’s as-yet untitled sequel, Jumanji 3. Technically a sequel to the 1995 Jumanji movie, Welcome to the Jungle hit theaters in December 2017 and went on to become a box office smash-hit fueled by great word of mouth. Unlike the ’90s film and the book that inspired it, the followup added a new twist where the enchanted Jumanji board game transforms itself into a video game that sucks players into its universe....

Actor-comedian Ken Jeong has shared excerpts of a message chain with former co-stars Gillian Jacobs and Yvette Nicole Brown in which they reminisce about their time on the TV series Community. Community was a series which first aired on NBC and followed the members of a study group at a local community college. While the premise of the show may have sounded innocuous, Community was anything but. The show, created by Dan Harmon, became known for lovable characters, sharp writing, high-concept episodes, and out-of-this-world genre parodies....

Kong: Skull Island comes out in two weeks and so far, it looks like it could actually deliver on the intense action promised by producers and actors. To date, the trailers have only given viewers brief glimpses at the action and certain moments of intensity, but with this third trailer for the film, it appears that many promises will be kept. This is director Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ (The Kings of Summer) first foray into the blockbuster action genre, but you wouldn’t know that based on this trailer....

Joker has been surrounded by controversy, but with the film now released we can see that not only was this completely overblown, but that pushing the backlash suited Warner Bros’ own agenda. Directed by Todd Phillips, with a script from himself and Scott Silver, Joker has so far been divisive. While Joker won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival, it’s also faced a major backlash for its apparent violence, which hasn’t been helped by various people involved (especially Phillips) weighing in on the matter....

When it was initially rumored that Warner Bros. had plans to take Joker, Todd Phillips’s re-imagining of Gotham City’s most iconic villain’s origin story, to the fall film festival circuit, many fans and critics were skeptical. The major movie festivals of the season are typically seen as launching pads for major awards and a certain kind of prestige that comic book adaptations and superhero titles don’t tend to strive for....

In a new interview with The Independent, Jony Ive describes the creation process of the new iPad Pro and shares more details about his design philosophies like what makes a device magical. The Independent’s David Phelan notes that Ive recently won the 2018 Professor Hawking Fellowship based on his “remarkable role in championing elegant and innovative design.” This of course is the latest in a long list of accolades he has garnered over his career at Apple....

Bono’s Product RED campaign to fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa has partnered with Apple for so long that you could easily mistake it as an Apple-created initiative, and this year the effort turns 10 years old with more than $350 million raised according to the Financial Times. In marking the decade-long effort to raise awareness and eliminate the virus/disease, FT highlighted Apple’s roots in the campaign: Apple’s design chief Jony Ive shared his take in the piece on how Product RED has had a humanitarian reach, challenging the idea of any corporate effect....

To go along with his complete redesign of iOS, Jony Ive’s official executive title at Apple has been flattened to drop the word “Industrial.” The change is notable as this new title plants Ive’s position as being where the buck stops for the design of all of Apple’s products… Ive’s former position as chief of hardware design was expanded to provide “leadership and direction” for Apple’s interface teams last fall in tandem with Scott Forstall leaving Apple....
