The first full season of Syfy’s live-action Superman prequel Krypton is coming to DC Universe next week. Although Netflix is currently the king of the streaming wars, there is more competition arriving all the time. One of the new streaming services to launch last year was Warner Bros.’ DC Universe.
The digital service provides a much larger variety of activities for subscribers than a traditional streaming service, as DC fans can read digital versions of old comics, buy merchandise, and chat with fellow DC fanatics. However, one of the primary selling points of the service is the near complete library of DC content that it has to offer. DC Universe is the home of original live-action series’ like Titans, continuations with Young Justice: Outsiders, and decades of old movies and TV shows. The library of content is always growing, such as the addition of the original Shazam TV show, and now another one is on the way.
DC Universe announced today at WonderCon that season 1 of Krypton will be made available on the service starting next week. All 10 episodes of the first season will be streamable starting April 5 to all subscribers. The arrival of the David Goyer and Cameron Welsh executive produced show comes ahead of Krypton’s season 2 debut, which will happen sometime this summer.
The first season of Krypton debuted last year on Syfy, telling the story of Superman’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe). The show is taking its own approach to the DC mythology, as DC characters like Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) and Brainiac (Blake Ritson) have appeared, along with General Zod (Colin Salmon). The first season surprised many who have already checked it out, and it being made available on DC Universe will give those who missed it a chance to catch up before season 2 arrives.
Just like season 1, Krypton season 2 is set to further expand the universe and use more characters familiar to DC fans. The biggest new addition is Lobo, who will be played by Emmett J. Scanlan. The super villain has already been featured several times in promotional photos for the season, giving fans an early look at how Krypton plans to bring him to life. He is just the beginning of the new surprises the show has in store, as a recently revealed Krypton season 2 teaser trailer offered a look at another classic Superman villain who will appear. With plenty of excitement in store for season 2, Krypton’s nearing availability on DC Universe is an easy way to check out the series or revisit it.
