Knives Out director Rian Johnson admits that his favorite sweater of the film is not the beloved Chris Evans cable knit sweater, but is actually Jaeden Martell’s. Martell plays Jacob Thrombey, Walt and Donna Thrombeys’ alt-right, MAGA-supporting son who spends most of the movie trolling the Internet and supposedly pleasuring himself in the bathroom. Jacob does, however, have some key information to relay about Evans’ character, Ransom Drysdale, in one particular scene.
Johnson spoke with Vanity Fair and broke down the scene in which Ransom Drysdale arrives early to a family meeting discussing Harlan Thrombey’s will. While the video is loaded with behind-the-scenes fun facts, one of the most surprising tidbits Johnson revealed is that his favorite sweater in the movie is the one Martell wears in this scene. Johnson said, “I think Jaeden actually wins the sweater game here with this– with the pink shirt and the lines. It all lines up.”
Admittedly, it has a bit more flair than Evans’ cream-colored Aran cable knit. Martell’s sweater is the same cream color and while the pattern of Martell’s cable knit is not as intricate as Evans’, it does have a light pink collar with a navy blue outline that makes the sweater pop. Johnson also added that outside of his jerkish character, Martell is a very nice and professional, young actor. Beyond Martell and his sweater in Knives Out, Johnson also touched on some insider info like that filmmakers are not allowed to give villains iPhones.
Knives Out kicks off when renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.
