Xbox fans around the world will soon have a chance to play four classic games from the Kingdom Hearts series, as Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX will be available on Xbox One later this month. The games in the Kingdom Hearts series have mostly been released on Nintendo and PlayStation systems, but they have usually skipped the Xbox line of consoles, as well as PC.
There has been a growing relationship between Square Enix and Microsoft of late, as it was announced back in November that several classic Final Fantasy games are coming to Game Pass in 2020. Microsoft has made no secret that it’s bringing out the big guns for the Xbox Series X generation, which has included purchasing a number of studios and having a closer relationship with established Japanese studios. Final Fantasy XIV is also coming to Xbox One, which means that it’s likely coming to the Xbox Series X in the future.
It was announced in 2019 that Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue are coming to Xbox One this year. Players now know the release date for one of those titles, as the Microsoft Store has a page for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX which lists a release date of February 18, 2020.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX consists of HD remasters of four Kingdom Hearts games and two extended cinematics that break down the events of two other games. The collection includes HD versions of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, and Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep Final Mix. The Final Mix in the names refers to the fact that these are based on re-releases of the original games that never left Japan, so they contain new content international Kingdom Hearts fans could never play before. The two games that have been condensed into movies are Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, both of which were originally released for the Nintendo DS.
Kingdom Hearts III was not the final chapter of the story and players know more Kingdom Hearts games are on the way. Microsoft has made a good choice in joining up with Square Enix to bring so many classic games to the Xbox One, as it could lead to more Kingdom Hearts content on Xbox systems in the future.
