The days of being entertained by the jealousy, rivalry, and trickery of Loki are finally over, now that King Thor will finally face his brother in a battle to the death. And in the most shocking twist possible… it’s actually Loki who may have the edge in their final fight.

It might seem like an odd time to throw Thor into his last fight as King of Asgard, considering he was just given the crown after Marvel’s War of The Realms event. It was the event writer Jason Aaron had spent years building to, and paid off by changing most of Marvel’s universe even slightly connected to Asgard and the new, more glorious than ever KING Thor. But to win the day, the god of thunder needed help from his older, future self: Old King Thor. And it’s that mighty warrior whose story will be Aaron’s last… along with rest of life in Marvel’s entire Universe, at the end of time.

It’s a shame to think that any Thor fans missed out on Aaron’s flash-forward stories, revealing Thor as the last ruler alive in a dead universe. Well, until he and the Phoenix Wolverine waged a cosmic battle for the ages. But as Old King Thor won the day, and even merged Mjolnir with the Phoenix Force, too, his victory over the final villain in all of Creation seemed a fitting end. That was, until Loki reared his ugly head–determined to give his brother one last battle for all the marbles. Only this time he actually possesses a weapon that could make him stronger, and more murderous than his brother: All-Black the Necrosword, forged from the first symbiote.

The cliffhanger was dropped, and the stage remains set. Now that King Thor has returned back to his home at the end of the universe, Aaron and artist Esad Ribic are ready to finished their story. In just four issues, Thor will face the one weapon that almost killed him, wielded by the brother who’s finally ready to finish the job. Still any Thor fans doubting Loki has changed?
