The star of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim Kardashian opened up about suffering from pre-eclampsia while pregnant with her children North and Saint, which caused her organs to shut down. She reveals that she had to undergo five surgeries in order to get back to normal after suffering many pregnancy-related issues.
Since Keeping Up with the Kardashians aired in 2007, Kim was shot into stardom and has been entertaining the reality TV audiences ever since. The beauty mogul married rapper Kanye West in 2014. The two currently have four children - North, 6, Saint, 4, followed by daughter Chicago, 23-months, and seven-month-old Psalm. Kim has branched out in her many business ventures. The fashion icon launched her shapewear collection, Skims, what she thinks will be her billion-dollar business idea. Part of the appeal is that Kim has been very open and honest about what shapewear means to her and how it’s built her confidence. She’s both physically and emotionally stripped down for the promo Skims.
Recently Skims has been highlighting women and their stories about what inspires them and donating to a charity that is close to them for this holiday season. Kim was the first to start where she revealed the difficulties she faced while trying to create the large family that she dreamed of. the 39-year-old fashion mogul began the video, “When I was pregnant with my daughter North, I had a condition called pre-eclampsia or toxemia, which is basically when the mom’s organs start to shut down.” She revealed in the Instagram video, “the only way to get rid of that is to deliver the baby. At 34 and a half weeks, I had to go into emergency labor - they induced me.” The star said that this caused North to be born nearly 6 weeks early and at only 4 pounds. Kim continued, “After I delivered, my placenta never came out, so that’s called placenta accreta. My placenta grew inside my uterus and that is what women die from in childbirth.” Watch the full Skims Instagram post below:
Kim continued to tell her story, revealing, that she froze her eggs in order to get pregnant with Saint. Kim revealed that there were two viable embryos left. She explained that with Saint’s birth she “had the same condition, same awful delivery that I had with my first daughter.” The reality TV star revealed that she had “to have five different operations within a year and a half to fix the damage that all of that did from the inside.” She explained, by all appearances, “from the outside I was filming and [doing] photoshoots,” but on the inside, she was a mess. Kim said that she had asked her doctors if getting pregnant again with the remaining embryos was a possibility. Kim explained how the doctors felt about it, saying, “And they were like, ‘We won’t even put an embryo in you - that would be like malpractice.’” Due to this heartbreaking news, Kim and Kanye decided to have their two remaining children via gestational carriers.
Though becoming a family of six faired to be more difficult than the Keeping Up with the Kardashian star imagined, she explained at the end of the Skims’ video how proud she is of her family and how she’d go through it all again to have her children. Part of the video meant that Skims was donating to a charity of her choice, the Bail Project, which ensures that families are together for the holiday. Kim, once again, understands how branding herself means being as open and honest as possible with her fanbase - and in the process is inspiring women all over the world.
