Kim Kardashian has come under fire for gifting her daughter North the blood-soaked shirt that US President John F. Kennedy was wearing the day he was assassinated. Despite some calling her out for what would unquestionably be a tasteless gift, Kardashian has assured everyone that it was all part of a “sick joke” in which she wasn’t even involved.
Drama is nothing new with the Kardashian family. This is especially true for Kim. Just this past year, she’s had some memorable highs and lows - from suing a doctor who over copyright infringement to calling out her own obsession with being famous to having another child, Psalm. As 2019 comes to an end, following a decade of entertaining chaos captured on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kim experienced one more potentially image-damaging accusation in the form of a Christmas present for her daughter, North. As it so happens, though, the accusation is false because the present wasn’t even real to begin.
According to People, an Instagram account posing as Kim Kardashian made it appear as though the actual Kim Kardashian bought her daughter, North, the same shirt that President John F. Kennedy wore the day he was assassinated. As a result, Kardashian fans called out Refinery29 for reporting on the news as fact, which later resulted in Kim personally addressing the fact that both the account and gift are fake. She responded to BuzzFeed writer/producer Nina Mohan’s tweet, which called out Refinery29’s original story, saying, “WOW this is obviously fake! @Refinery29 I did not get JFK’s shirt. That is a sick joke that someone tweeted as a fake ig story that I never posted.” Check out the tweet below:
While Kim and her husband Kanye West clearly wouldn’t go as far as giving their daughter such an inappropriate gift, they did give North an article of clothing that’s considered by some to be slightly controversial. For Christmas, they gifted North one of Michael Jackson’s personal jackets. To some, it was simply a lavish gift; to others, it seemed in poor taste given the negative light surrounding Jackson following HBO’s revealing documentary, Leaving Neverland.
The Kardashian/Jenner family has been known to treat their kids with extravagant gifts. For Christmas, Kris Jenner got her granddaughter Stormi Webster a two-story playhouse. That said, there’s such a thing as going too far, and as over-the-top as this family may seem/be at times, they have enough tact and common sense to not give their kids something as morbid as clothing - or anything, for that matter - covered in blood.
