Season 2 of BBC America’s Killing Eve gets its first teaser trailer, which offers a good look at what happened to Villanelle after the events of the season 1 finale. The series was an unequivocal hit, being a rare new television show to see its fan base and viewership grow over the course of its critically acclaimed first season. The series has since gone on to win some awards, too, like the Golden Globe for star Sandra Oh, and a pair of Emmy nominations for Oh and series creator/writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Season 2 is headed to BBC America and AMC in April, and it will be paired with the hit UK supernatural import A Discovery of Witches. But it will bring with it some behind-the-scenes changes, too, as Waller-Bridge will be handing the reins over to new showrunner Emerald Fennell. That could be a hurdle for the series as a big part of its appeal was the unique, irreverent personality it had, much of which could be attributed to Waller-Bridge and, certainly, the first few episodes of the series she wrote. From the look of things, though, Killing Eve won’t miss a beat, as the teaser trailer is remarkable fun and fast paced.

Though it clocks in at just a minute long, the teaser says a great deal about what’s going on in the new season, particularly with regard to Eve and Villanelle’s obsessive relationship that ended in bloodshed last year. Inasmuch as the series might have wanted to play up the master of where Villanelle ran off to and what her condition is, the teaser doesn’t waste any time in offering an answer. That actually works out just fine, as this first look at the new season is more intent on examining the ramifications of Eve’s seeming addiction to the alluring assassin and what it means for her future. The teaser also offers up some evidence that Killing Eve hasn’t lost its sense of humor, as Eve has a rather revealing phone conversation in front of two civilians who can’t help but overhear something they’d likely rather not. As for Villanelle, it seems she’s survived her encounter with Eve, but is a little worse for wear. Given all that she went through in season 1, it might work out in the series’ favor to slow her down a little, and put her on the defensive.
At any rate, BBC America is clearly eager to get its hit back onto the air and to get people talking about it again. If the teaser is any indication, it won’t be long before that happens.
