Is the planned Kill The Minotaur adaptation still going ahead? The Labyrinth comes from an ancient Greek myth which is home to the Minotaur - a huge beast with the head of a bull and the body of a man. It was up to hero Theseus to enter the confusing Labyrinth and slay the beast. Surprisingly, the Minotaur itself hasn’t received much in the way of big-screen outings. It appeared in 2006’s Minotaur, which gave a young Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises) his first lead role, and in 2012’s Wrath Of The Titans.
The hulking creature also served as a boss in video game Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. The idea of the Labyrinth itself has appeared in everything from Hellbound: Hellraiser II to, well, Labyrinth. Writing team Chris Pasetto and Christian Cantasmessa (Red Dead Redemption) offered a fresh take on the myth with their 2017 comic series Kill The Minotaur. The comic featured striking artwork and a gory update on a classic tale.
From the imagery alone it’s easy to see how a fun adventure movie could be made from Kill The Minotaur, but is a planned movie adaptation still moving ahead?
A Kill The Minotaur Movie Was Announced In 2017
Kill The Minotaur is a comic series from Skybound Entertainment, who are also behind The Walking Dead. In 2017 it was announced Skybound was teaming with Universal to make a Kill The Minotaur movie, with Chris Pasetto and Christian Cantasmessa returning to pen the script.
No cast or director was confirmed for the Kill The Minotaur movie, though the plan was to turn it into a blockbuster. Movies that mix period action with fantasy such as 300 appeared to be the template, though recent examples of the genre - such as 2016’s Gods Of Egypt - haven’t fared well at the box-office.
There’s Been No Update On Kill The Minotaur Since 2017
While it’s not unusual for a film to be announced and then spent a long period in development, the amount of time that’s passed without an update on Kill The Minotaur is a little worrying. Since the initial announcement, nothing has been heard about the project and a director still hasn’t been officially attached.
Skybound is plenty busy with their Walking Dead franchise, so it’s possible Kill The Minotaur has been placed on a backburner while a script is being developed. Curiously, Predators director Nimrod Antal told HN Entertainment in 2019 he was working on a script that was a retelling of the Minotaur legend, though it’s unknown if this is in any way connected to Kill The Minotaur.
