The feud between Keeping Up With the Kardashians sisters Kourtney and Kim over their daughters’ joint birthday finally reached a breaking point, forcing younger sister Khloe to step in and mediate. The two reality stars could not see eye to eye on the food at North and Penelope’s Candyland themed party. Kim felt the theme called for mass amounts of sugary goodness, while Kourtney, who is known for a more holistic lifestyle, felt they should be sourcing healthier alternatives.
Cousins North West and Penelope Disick are only a year apart, both have summer birthdays, and considering how extravagant a Kardashian birthday can be, the sisters wanted to just have one big bash. However, once the girls settled on a Candyland party theme, it became apparent just how different Kim and Kourtney’s parenting styles are. Kourtney, who has been known to feed her family a mostly organic diet and once spoke at the White House about the amount of chemicals in household products, felt that the party food should predominately be healthy, despite the theme.
Kim and Kourtney let tensions mount, and People reported the sisters decided to separate the parties since they couldn’t agree on a menu. Khloe finally had to step in and mediate the sisters’ party planning efforts in order for her nieces to have their joint party. “They’re going to spend double their money, split their friends up, make people go to two different parties - that’s crazy,” Khloe said as she attempted to break bread. “I feel like you very often times think that you are right no matter what, and your way is the highway,” Kim expressed to Kourtney during Khloe’s intervention, to which Kourtney replied, “Because I usually am, and it usually is.”
The sisters did agree to compromise, and the party was held at Kourtney’s house over the summer. Even though Kim got her way with the candy, she was the first to admit there was way too much. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians co-stars had to run around apologizing to parents for their kid’s sugar rush, and both agreed they would never do a Candyland theme again. Unfortunately for Khloe, this isn’t the first time she’s been stuck between her two older sisters. Kim and Kourtney have already fought once this season when Kim accused Kourtney of trying to copy her style. Previously, the sisters have argued about items like Kourtney’s humanitarian efforts, Kourtney’s participation in their annual holiday card, Kourtney’s participation in Kim’s video game, and Kim’s baby registry, just to name a few.
Khloe usually prides herself on Swiss neutrality, but made her alliance known last year when she chose
Kim over Kourtney to be the legal guardian for her daughter True. “Watching Kimberly be a mom, I really respect her parenting skills - not that I don’t respect Kourtney’s, I relate to how Kim parents more,” the new mom said of her decision, clearly in agreement that candy is a must at kids birthday parties.
