It looks like Kevin Smith is not in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker after all. While there were rumors of the Jay And Silent Bob director having a cameo appearance in the latest Star Wars movie, Smith has revealed that his involvement in the film was little more than visiting the set and giving it a glowing review on Twitter.

Smith has made no secret of his love of Star Wars and pop-culture in general. His View Askewniverse series of films have made numerous references to the franchise, including an iconic scene from Clerks where the characters discuss whether or not Imperial contractors deserved to die aboard the second Death Star. Additionally, Smith himself has visited the set of a number of other Disney-produced movies, The Rise Of Skywalker included. Naturally, speculation started to arise that the director and occasional comic book writer would have a bit role in the final installment of the nine-part Skywalker Saga, with The Rise Of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams fueling the discussion during an interview leading up to the film’s release.

However, as Comicbook.com reports, this was not the case. “I can’t wait to come back and talk about it, when everyone has seen it,” Smith told fans at the film’s Hollywood premiere on Monday night. “Am I in the thing, the thing I love? The thing I want to spoil? No, it’s a Chewy thing. I do, I want to tell you. I want to tell you everything.” This came before his brief, non-spoiler review of the movie on Twitter, where he told of how he met The Mandalorian executive producer Jon Favreau, who gave him a commemorative coin from the show.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker hit theaters this Thursday, dividing critics and fans in a reverse situation from 2017’s equally contentious The Last Jedi. The movie deals with the aftermath of the latter, with sequel trilogy heroine, Rey and friends rallying the remaining forces of the Resistance in one final battle with the evil Kylo Ren and the First Order, as well as the shocking return of the previously-deceased Emperor Palpatine.

While Kevin Smith might not have gotten a chance to appear in the highly-anticipated final installment of the Skywalker Saga, it’s encouraging to have someone of his stature in the fanbase displaying such enthusiasm for the film. Fans can see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in theaters now, and catch Kevin Smith on his weekly podcast on Smodcast.com.
