Kevin Hart and John Travolta will be teaming up for brand new streaming service Quibi’s meta action series Die Hart. In contrast to other streaming services like HBO Max, Quibi is a unique platform that will provide “quick bites” of premium content that are under 10 minutes in duration. Quibi will launch in April. Supported by companies such as Walt Disney, WarnerMedia, and Universal, the streaming service is bringing in big names such as Hart and Travolta to help grow what will be one of the many new streaming services that will become available to audiences.
Despite a terrible car crash last year, Hart is enjoying plenty of success. He is fresh off the roaring success of Jumanji: The Next Level, which has grossed over $750 million at the worldwide box office. In addition to that, he has no shortage of upcoming projects as he is reportedly set to play Scrooge in Paramount’s remake of Scrooged, the 1988 Bill Murray film, as well as somewhat jokingly campaigning to be a part of Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. Travolta, on the other hand, has had much more trying times as of late. His most recent film, The Fanatic was the worst opening of the legendary actor’s career, grossing only $15,000 in its opening weekend, and his passion project Gotti received an incredibly rare 0 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, now both Hart and Travolta will come together in a brand new TV series, in which Hart plays himself.
In a recent report from Deadline, details on the new series Die Hart starring Hart and Travolta were revealed. The series will revolve around Hart playing a fictionalized version of himself who’s tired of playing the comedic sidekick. So when a famous director offers Hart the chance to be a leading action star, he thinks his dream has come true, except he now has to train at the world’s greatest action star school, run by a “lunatic,” Travolta. In the series, “Hart must survive a series of hilarious, over-the-top action sequences and face his fears if he wants to achieve his dream and land the role of a lifetime.”
Tripper Clancy and Derek Kolstad are the writers for the series, and it is directed by Eric Appel, who has notable directing credits for popular TV shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Office. It is also “the first production of its kind” from Hart’s Laugh Out Loud company, and it starts production on Monday. The combination of the narrative, Hart playing himself, and a director who has worked on notable comedic series’ looks like viewers could be in store for a fun little show, as it seems like it will play to the stars’ comedic strengths.
Also, the combination of Hart and Travolta in an action-comedy series will no doubt be interesting viewing for audiences. The show could additionally prove to be a much-needed boost for Travolta, who has not found much success on the big screen as of late, and attaching himself to a popular star like Hart is also not a bad career move. In addition to the star pairing, it will be interesting to see how Die Hart unfolds under Quibi’s “quick bites” style of content.
