Actors Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson, who star in Jumanji: The Next Level, celebrate Halloween with a hilarious video calling back to Johnson’s 90s black turtleneck throwback picture. Hart and Johnson have worked together a few times over the years, beginning with 2016’s Central Intelligence. Most notably, the pair starred in 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which earned $962 million at the box office, solidifying its success and paving the way for a sequel.
Now two years after Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle hit theaters, Johnson and Hart are reuniting with their fellow cast members for Jumanji: The Next Level. Of course, it won’t be the only film this year in which the actors have worked together - after Hart had a cameo in Johnson’s Hobbs & Shaw - but it will see them return to their Jumanji video game roles. In order to tease the final Jumanji: The Next Level trailer, Johnson and Hart had some Halloween fun.
On Twitter, Johnson posted a Halloween comedy skit where he’s giving out candy to kids. The video begins with four young children dressed as the main characters from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Then, the next trick-or-treater to come to Johnson’s door is none other than Hart dressed as Johnson’s black turtleneck picture from the 90s. The two Hollywood best friends spend the rest of the video poking fun at each other. Along with the video, Johnson also confirmed the final Jumanji: The Next Level trailer’s release on Halloween. Check out the video as well as a side-by-side of Hart as 90s Johnson below.
In between all the laughs is a sincere celebration from Johnson for the recovery of his friend after a serious back injury. On Sept. 1, Hart was involved in a near-fatal car accident that led to multiple fractures to the actor’s back. With very little information released until now about Hart’s recovery, Johnson makes it a point to mention his friend’s recovery while still keeping the playful feud between them going. So ultimately, this video serves as both a way to promote the Jumanji: The Next Level trailer and assure fans that Hart is recovered from his injury.
With the rising trend of releasing mini-trailers advertising the premiere of the actual advertisement, this comical video is a perfect showcase of how to promote a trailer right. With the marketing strategy of the trailer coming out on Halloween, Johnson is able to use his social media presence to promote the ad. Fans were treated to a very entertaining video with the added bonus of announcing the premiere date for the next trailer. Before any new footage was released for Jumanji: The Next Level, this Halloween video perfectly increased the excitement for the final trailer, but also the movie itself.
