Keanu Reeves stopped by the Cyberpunk 2077 booth at Tokyo Games Show 2019 yesterday and posed riding the game’s custom Yaiba Kusanagi motorcycle. Earlier this year at E3 Keanu Reeves and CD Projekt Red surprised pretty much everyone when they released a trailer starring the Bill & Ted and The Matrix actor as a non-playable character in the upcoming first-person RPG Cyberpunk 2077, and his subsequent appearance on stage has gone on to inspire a million memes featuring the phrase “You’re breathtaking!”

While Keanu Reeves is currently experiencing a resurgence in popularity thanks to the action-oriented John Wick franchise, his appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 is the actor’s first video game role since the PS2-era Matrix extended universe titles Enter the Matrix and Path of Neo, the latest of which debuted over 13 years ago. In the film world, Reeves is also currently starring in an upcoming Matrix sequel and the eagerly anticipated new Bill & Ted movie, which has just finished filming.

As revealed by the official Cyberpunk 2077  Twitter account, Keanu Reeves stopped by the Tokyo Games Show yesterday and signed his name on the game’s booth wall after taking a pretend spin on the sleek Yaiba Kusanagi. A fictional bike from a fictional in-game company, the word “Yaiba” means “blade” in Japanese and “Kusanagi,” while also the name of a legendary sword, could very well be a reference to the protagonist in the Ghost in the Shell manga series, whose name was Motoko Kusanagi. Previous Cyberpunk 2077 footage has also shown the player driving their very own Kusanagi bike in-game.

At the TGS booth, Reeves signed his own name and also that of Johnny Silverhand, the name of the character he is portraying in Cyberpunk 2077. Johnny Silverhand’s origins date back to the original Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game from which CD Projekt Red took inspiration, in which Keanu’s character is classified as a Rockerboy, a class that Polygon reports is somewhat akin to a Bard from Dungeons & Dragons. According to the original text, Rockerboys like Reeves’ robot-armed Johnny are the “street poets, social consciousness, and rebels of the 2000’s.”

Having already made the trip out to Japan, it’s doubtful Keanu Reeves just showed up in order to say hello to everyone and sign his name on a wall after sitting on a fictional motorcycle. It’s already a known fact that Keanu Reeves visited Kojima Productions just a few days ago, and given Hideo Kojima’s fondness for both science-fiction cult movies and Hollywood actors and actresses it’s very likely some sort of discussion about Reeves appearing in Hideo Kojima’s next game took place. Oh, to be a fly on that wall.
