Congratulations to Kathy Griffin, who had a New Year’s wedding with legend Lily Tomlin serving as the officiant. The ginger comedienne married longtime love Randy Bick in an intimate ceremony on New Years Day, kicking off the new decade. Griffin chronicled the experience in a series of tweets and video clips.

The May/December couple (she’s 18 years his senior) began dating in 2011 after meeting during a food and wine festival. Their relationship has endured many obstacles over the years, ranging from her busy tour schedule to an investigation by the Secret Service after she was photographed holding a simulated severed head of Donald Trump. Through it all, she and Bick remained close, even during a brief split in 2018. However, they reconciled months later.

With so many funny ladies involved, the nuptials were not without a heavy dose of comedy. Tomlin executed her role with the same sense of humor that made her famous, according to People. During her recitation, she quipped, “What was supposed to be a shallow, ‘toot it and boot it’ one-night stand has grown and flourished into something far more meaningful.” The Grace and Frankie star continued. “They stayed together. Then they couldn’t stay away from one another.”

Griffin walked down the aisle in a shimmering opalescent short-sleeved gown by Diane Von Furstenberg, with earrings by Erica Courtney. The bride also carried a bouquet of festive red flowers, a nod to the recent holiday season. This is the second marriage for Griffin. She was previously wed to software engineer Matthew Moline for four years, until the union ended in 2005. The Grammy winner often spoke of that relationship in her comedy act, as well as on her reality show, My Life on the D-List. Her fans became aware of her romance with Bick in similar fashion; she has spoken of the joys of life with a younger man during her more recent stand-up performances.

Kathy Griffin has had a tough few years, but it’s good to see her kick off the New Year with happy news. She and Randy Bick seem to complement each other’s personalities. They also show that love and marriage can find a person no matter their age. Lily Tomlin has been a champion of women and feminism throughout her career, so who better to join a modern pair like Griffin and Bick in holy matrimony. Her funny recitation was a joy to hear, and a loving gift to Griffin. Relationships are meant to elevate both parties involved. Based on the photos of the happy couple, it appears that they give each other a reason to be happy each and everyday. May the current incarnation of their relationship be as spectacular as their courtship.
