On Keeping Up with the Kardashians this week, Kanye West was worried that his wife, Kim Kardashian’s dress was ’too sexy,’ but Kim shuts him down. On the eve of the Met Gala, Kanye decided to spring it on his wife that her ultra-sexy corset look was too much for him, but Kim’s mind was already made.
Since their show first aired in 2007, the Kardashian family has been entertaining the reality TV audiences, with Kim at the center of it all. The beauty mogul married rapper Kanye West in 2014, which was featured on season 9 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Currently, the couple has four children - North, 6, Saint, 3, followed by daughter Chicago, 20-months, and four-month-old Psalm. Kim had both North and Saint but then turned to surrogacy for Chicago and Psalm, due to Kim suffering from placenta accreta during her two pregnancies. As she prepared for baby Psalm’s arrival, she also prepared her look for the Met Gala 2019.
With the stress of having a new baby on the way, going to law school, and preparing for one of the biggest fashion events of all time, Kim’s stress was understandably at an all-time high. The theme for the 2019 Met Gala was “camp” - in other words intentionally being over-the-top. Back in May when the Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ episode was filmed, Kim was preparing for her over-the-top mermaid-inspired look for the Met, complete with a custom made corset to give her body an unreal illusion that took over 8-months to create. On the night before the event, Kanye decided to tell his wife what he really thinks about her ultra-sexy corset look. He said (via People):
Kanye’s criticisms of Kim’s motives did not go over well, she replied, “So the night before the Met you’re going to come in here and say that you’re not into a corset vibe?” She explained, “You’re giving me really bad anxiety. You knew last night I had really bad anxiety and I don’t need any more negative energy and for you say you’re now not into me wearing a tight dress.” Kanye pushed back, “You are my wife and it affects me when pictures are too sexy.” Kim didn’t back down to her husband, saying, “You built me up to be this sexy person and confidence and all this, and just because you’re on a journey and transformation doesn’t mean I’m in the same spot with you.” A visibly frustrated Kanye replies with “Okay, alright. Okay, alright cool.”
“I went through this transition where being a rapper, looking at all these girls and looking at my wife, like, ‘Oh my girl needs to be just like the other girls showing their body off.’ I didn’t realize that that was affecting my soul and my spirit as someone who is married and the father of now … about to be four kids. A corset is a form of underwear, it’s hot, for who though?”
Though Kanye was annoyed with Kim’s over-the-top look for the Met Gala, the couple’s disagreement seemed to have blown over by the time they walked the red carpet. She and Kanye stepped out onto the red carpet alongside Kim’s half-sisters, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner. It seems that everything that was causing Kim anxiety in this week’s episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians has turned out just fine - and her Met Gala look killed.
