Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ Kim Kardashian turned 39 this past week and to celebrate, her husband Kanye West donated $1 million to her favorite charities. Not only did Kanye give her some designer bags, but she was also able to give back this birthday thanks to her husband’s generous birthday present.

Kim has gone through quite the transformation in the last decade - going from Paris Hilton’s personal stylist to one of the most famous women in the world and a law student working on prison reform. Since gaining fame on Keeping Up with the Kardashians since 2007, she’s been catapulted into the spotlight and she hasn’t left. Recently, the entrepreneur has switched her focus from fame and fortune to working toward those less fortunate. Kim recently worked with the White House to free a woman, Alice Marie Johnson, from prison after she’d been sentenced to life without parole for federal drug and money laundering charges. Kim is also focusing on her law degree and prepares to take the bar exam in 2022. She’s spoken openly about how her new purpose in life will be criminal justice.

Kim tweeted a day after her birthday about all of the gifts she received and took a picture of her favorite one. The fashion icon wrote, “I got amazing gifts from my whole family and Kanye for me those amazing bags.” Kim continued to write that Kanye not only got her handbags but “he also donated $1 million to my favorite charities that work so hard on prison reform on my behalf from him and the kids.”  She posted a picture of a simple white piece of paper, written, “A donation of $1 million has been made in your name. By Kanye, North, Saint, Chi, and Psalm West.” She concluded the tweet, “This makes my heart so happy!” See the full tweet below:

On the paper is written four charities. The organizations include Cut50, The Buried Alive Project, Equal Justice Initiative, and The Anti-Recidivism Coalition which all work toward the movement of reforming our nation’s criminal justice system. The organizations are all doing their part to decrease prison population, reduce life without parole sentences, and provide post-care for former inmates. Kim is now using her platform to spread the word on her new passion - prison reform. In a recent interview with Vogue, the fashion icon and mother of four said that her past love of fame is now embarrassing to her and now helping the helpless is the only thing she wants to pursue.

With her tweet being retweeted and liked thousands of times, it seems that Kim is now using her huge platform to advocate toward helping those in need. Fans thought it was such a sweet gesture for Kanye to get Kim this for her birthday because he knew how much it means to her. Kim is changing the rules as she goes, going from fashion icon to advocate for inmates, and we are all here for it.
