Zack Snyder’s first cut of the Justice League film was over five hours long. This information comes after images which proved the existence of the Snyder Cut of Justice League were posted online by Zack Snyder himself, done so because he was apparently sick and tired of all the rumors surrounding the existence of his proposed vision for the DC universe.
Snyder infamously departed the set of Justice League mid-production due to family issues, leading to multiple re-shoots and a different directorial vision which clashed with the original story Snyder had been trying to create. Recently, demand for the Snyder Cut of Justice League has reached a near fever-pitch, with everyone from fans of the original Justice League comic book franchise to the actual cast and crew of the Justice League movie requesting a release of Snyder’s original film cut.
Although attentive fans already know the Snyder Cut of Justice League is over three hours long, now there is proof the initial version of the film would have been much, much longer. As confirmed by Zack Snyder himself on Twitter when questioned about the actual length of the Snyder Cut, the director confirmed the assembly cut of Justice League was nearly five hours long, almost double the length of most motion pictures.
It’s important to note assembly cuts are almost always much longer than the associated final products. Snyder’s comments were made in response to a Twitter user referencing Screen Rant’s previous report of the official Snyder Cut length being upwards of three and a half hours, saying such a film length must itself be an assembly cut. In the message embedded above, however, Snyder confirms the actual assembly cut of Justice League was nearly five hours long, meaning that even the Snyder Cut of Justice League likely cuts out many, many aspects out of the director’s original vision for the film.
With a running length of nearly three normal-sized films, the assembly cut of Justice League sounds like something which would have been nearly impossible to cut down to a theatrical run-time for even veteran industry editors. While fans are still clamoring for a release of the Snyder Cut of Justice League, one can only wonder if this is all some sort of genius marketing ploy by Warner Brothers to sell die-hard comic book fans two different versions of the same movie. Surely, excitement over Snyder’s version of Justice League is stronger now than it ever has been in the past, and would very likely make a good selling point for something like HBO Max or some other streaming service, should such an option become available in the future.
