Famed sandwich shop Subway has joked about adding a “Snyder Cut” themed sandwich to their menu, in reference to Zack Snyder’s original version of Justice League. The past few weeks have seen the much-debated Snyder Cut of the superhero ensemble take on a whole new level of mainstream interest, with cast and crew members alike voicing support for its release, including Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot. That’s without even getting into the support its received from a host of other Hollywood A-listers, including numerous Marvel stars.

Following Snyder’s departure from the film, Justice League went through major reshoots, with the version that arrived in theaters a stark detour from what Snyder had intended. In the two years since its release, the campaign for Zack Snyder’s original cut of the movie has gained an increasing amount of momentum, especially after Jason Momoa confirmed he has seen it. Additionally, a series of interviews with Momoa, Jesse Eisenberg, and Junkie XL would also heighten public curiosity about the Snyder Cut, with each revealing various details about it.

In Subway’s latest comment on the matter, the famed sandwich shop joked about incorporating the Snyder Cut into their menu, tweeting “Snyder Cut Special really has a ring to it.” Needless to say, no one could have predicted that Subway would chime in on the issue of Zack Snyder’s original version of Justice League. Subway first stepped into the conversation last week, when prompted on social media by the request to make a 10,000 sandwich donation to Feeding America, along with tweeting the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag. Having set a goal of 5,000 retweets in five hours, Subway increased their donation to 15,000 sandwiches, along with officially tweeting in support of the Snyder Cut’s release. Additionally, Subway’s tweet of support and charitable donation would also lead to a slew of other fast food chains making their support known on social media as well.

Aside from Subway’s donation to Feeding America, the Snyder Cut campaign has made other prominent charitable endeavors, specifically towards suicide prevention. Zack Snyder’s departure from Justice League came in the wake of the tragic loss of his daughter, and supporters of the Snyder Cut’s release have frequently utilized social media to make significant donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, with the contributions raised to date totaling $110,000. As the campaign has continued, these charitable contributions have also garnered praise from Snyder himself.

Even the most casual reading of the Snyder Cut situation makes clear that the topic has broken into the mainstream. Furthermore, Subway is hardly the only new party to unexpectedly jump into the conversation right out of the blue. This past weekend’s CCXP in Sao Paulo, Brazil would also see Ryan Reynolds joking referencing it during the panel for the Netflix film 6 Underground, to much audience applause. At present, Warner Bros. has not made any public commitment to releasing Snyder’s cut of the film. Nevertheless, it is clear the topic has permeated the public discourse, as is evidenced by Subway’s supportive comments and charitable donations on its behalf. The world is still waiting to see what will ultimately happen with the Justice League Snyder Cut, but Subway jumping into the mix has, at the very least, fed many hungry families over the holidays, along with jokingly inspiring a new footlong for their menu.
