Zack Snyder shared a Christmas present for Justice League fans in the form of a new image from his film. Support for the infamous “Snyder Cut” of Justice League has gained a lot of traction in the past few months, with fans taking to Twitter to demand Warner Bros. release it and multiple cast members (like Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa) sharing their support. For his part, Snyder has released several images of the cut on his Vero account, further stoking fan excitement.
Following Justice League’s disappointing box office performance in 2017, fans became desperate to see Snyder’s original vision for the film. Due to a family tragedy, Snyder had to step away from the film’s production, and Joss Whedon came in to complete it. Fans were displeased with the final theatrical version, however, and as Snyder began to share details of his initial plans for Justice League (as well as its sequels), they started up the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign.
The latest image from Snyder depicts the moment where Barry Allen/the Flash (Ezra Miller) and Victor Stone/Cyborg (Ray Fisher) dig up Superman’s (Henry Cavill) grave. What’s notable about Snyder’s new image is that, while in the theatrical cut only the Flash and Cyborg participate in the grave robbery, two other characters can be seen in the background: Diana/Wonder Woman (Gadot) and Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Momoa). Check it out below:
The grave robbing scene was one of the highlights of the film, as it gave viewers a chance to get to know the two characters who hadn’t been previously seen in the DCEU, aside from quick cameo appearances. Since Justice League, neither characters have appeared on screen, though Miller’s The Flash recently received a release date after years of being pushed back. The next film set within the DCEU will be Birds of Prey (or the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), hitting theaters February 2020.
While it’s still unclear if Warner Bros. will ever release the famed “Snyder Cut,” at least fans can still see glimpses of Snyder’s intended vision through his special images and hints. They can’t fully satisfy fans’ appetites like an actual movie can, but it’s still something. It is clear Snyder had grand plans for Justice League, and it’ll be disappointing if his cut of the film never sees the light of day. It would have been interesting to see a version of the grave robbing sequence with Diana and Arthur supervising, and maybe someday it will be released.
