The campaign for the Snyder Cut of Justice League has managed to raise over $150,000 for suicide prevention. The superhero ensemble saw Zack Snyder step down from directing duties following the tragic loss of his daughter. The movie subsequently went through massive reshoots in Snyder’s absence that diverged the movie heavily from what he had intended.
A staple of the grassroots campaign for the Snyder Cut’s release has been the sizeable donations it has raised for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The donations have been organized through a variety of means, ranging from T-shirt sales to matching funds raised for endeavors aimed at raising awareness for the Snyder Cut itself. As mainstream attention for the Snyder Cut has risen in recent days, these charitable efforts have also seen an increased amount of media attention.
In a recent post from Twitter user MickD, the donations to the AFSP by the Snyder Cut campaign have been tabulated, with total donations to date coming in at $156,613. Among the various charitable drives tallied are a few that Zack Snyder himself has been a part of. Specifically, Snyder’s release of a Justice League T-shirt last year, which provided a cryptic blueprint of his five movie arc for the DCEU, raised over $85,000.
More recently, Snyder would release another shirt and hoodie for the campaign’s charity work, which would rebrand the Snyder Cut as “Zack Snyder’s Justice League.” Included on the design are the emblems of all the core heroes to appear in Justice League, along with those of Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter (who Snyder revealed had previously been disguised in the DCEU as General Swanwick last fall), effectively alluding to the former having some kind of presence in his version of the movie. Both campaigns were organized with Ink to the People, with the latest still ongoing and having raised over $27,000 thus far, while a beanie bearing the movie’s re-branded title has also been made available.
Interest in the Snyder Cut is at an all-time high, with media attention for the topic increasing significantly after Jason Momoa went on record to confirm that he has seen it. The movie’s two year anniversary would also mark an enormous shift on the matter, with major names in the film industry voicing their support for its release, along with Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck each taking to social media to tweet the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag. From that point on, any reasonable reading of the situation can only come to the conclusion that the Snyder Cut is now very much a topic of mainstream discussion.
At this point, it is still uncertain as to what the outcome will be for the campaign for the Snyder Cut’s release and the rising support it has received from the public and Hollywood’s A-list. However, the push behind it has clearly made a positive impact. Whatever ultimately happens with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the massive contributions towards suicide prevention that it has drawn show that is has done a great deal to make the world a better place.
