Warner Bros. reportedly has no plans of heeding fan demand to release director Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League. It’s been two years since DC’s first ensemble project hit theaters, and yet it remains to be a favorite topic of conversation thanks to the Release the Snyder Cut movement. The campaign, which started shortly after the film released, demands the studio release the original cut of the film with Junkie XL’s (the initial composer before Danny Elfman stepped in) score.

It’s no secret that Justice League had a tumultuous production - from multiple script rewrites to a studio-mandated two-hour runtime, the film went through a lot of issues, but none was as big as the last minute director switch between Snyder and Joss Whedon. When Snyder stepped down from helming the film following a personal tragedy, Whedon was tasked to oversee the extensive reshoots of the film which reportedly had 80 pages of script. The former MCU filmmaker also assembled its theatrical cut, which was significantly different from Snyder’s original vision.

This all led to the birth of Justice League’s Release the Snyder Cut movement. For the last couple of years, the campaign has strived, with members organizing various events to continue promulgating their goal. It hit a big milestone during the film’s second anniversary with prominent figures involved in the project joining the cause and expressing their support, like cast members Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot. Despite all this, it seems like Warner Bros. is standing their ground. Variety is reporting that  “there are currently no plans to release a Snyder version either in theaters or on HBO Max.” Meanwhile, an unnamed insider said it’s “a pipe dream. There’s no way it’s ever happening.”

It’s worth noting that this isn’t an official announcement from Warner Bros., so it’s best to hold off any impassioned reactions until there’s an actual statement. The question is whether or not the studio even has any intentions of addressing the Release the Snyder Cut movement for Justice League. From the looks of it, the campaign isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, especially with high-profile people backing the cause. That includes Gadot and Jason Momoa, both of whom are still attached to the DCEU with Wonder Woman 1984 and Aquaman 2 in the pipeline.

From Warner Bros.’ perspective, Justice League and the mess that it was might not be worth revisiting. They’ve worked tirelessly in redirecting the course of their superhero franchise, so they might just want to move forward with that. If anything, the future of the DCEU is slowly veering away from Snyder’s plans with a string of new projects that don’t have any connection to the movies he’s made for the franchise. All that being said, there might actually be a compromise in this situation if the studio wants to do that. Given the clamor for the Justice League Snyder Cut, they can find a way to profit from it rather than continuously ignoring the petition that seems to only persist by the day.
