The past week has shown that public awareness of the “Snyder Cut” of Justice League is swiftly increasing. Zack Snyder stepped down from Justice League following a family tragedy, with massive reshoots being implemented on the film. As the two-year mark for the release of the movie nears, the ongoing campaign for Snyder’s original cut of Justice League hasn’t slowed down. In fact, there are now unambiguous signals that the notion of there being a completely different version of the superhero ensemble is rapidly gaining more mainstream attention.
Over the course of the last week, Jesse Eisenberg, Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL, and Jason Momoa were all interviewed regarding various projects each are involved with, and all were directly asked about the Snyder Cut. In the span of a few days, Eisenberg confirmed to have shot more scenes for Justice League, Junkie XL said he completed the score, and Momoa reiterated that he has seen the Snyder Cut along with championing its release. The fact that all three of them have spoken about Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League so closely together would be noteworthy all by itself. However, the circumstances of their comments also illustrate just where the topic of the Snyder Cut currently stands.
Specifically, the comments made by all three having emerged in interviews pertaining to other projects clearly points to the Snyder Cut beginning to reach a fever pitch of public curiosity. Moreover, it has also become a topic that virtually anyone directly connected to Justice League is now being asked about. Two visual effects artists who worked on the movie would also confirm a significant degree of completion on the visual effects after being asked on Twitter, and while Eisenberg expressed his prior ignorance of the Snyder Cut campaign, his revelation of additional scenes with Lex Luthor would prove to be a major lightning rod.
As has often been the case on the matter, Jason Momoa’s comments on the Snyder Cut have in particular became a powder keg for the chatter around Snyder’s version of Justice League. Momoa has been by far the most vocal of anyone involved with the movie in supporting the Snyder Cut’s release. In his recent interview with Josh Horowitz of MTV News, Momoa’s advocacy for the Snyder Cut would also repeat the online firestorm that arose when he had previously voiced his support in an earlier interview with Horowitz during the Aquaman press tour.
Making clear his immense gratitude to Zack Snyder for casting him as Arthur Curry, Momoa would go as far as to say, “I think the public needs to see it.” The reaction was swift, with Momoa’s comments being heavily circulated online. The interview would also begin attracting attention from many who had previously been apathetic to the topic, continuing the current trend of even Zack Snyder’s critics growing more interested in the Snyder Cut.
Ultimately, Warner Bros. has the final say on whether or not the Snyder Cut will actually be released. However, the push for it shows no indication of losing steam, and the interviews with Jesse Eisenberg, Tom Holkenborg, and Jason Momoa over the past week point to it only gaining momentum. Collectively, the comments of all three demonstrate that not only is the idea of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League being taken far more seriously than ever before, it has also become a topic that anyone who worked on the film is now being asked to share their perspective on.
