Despite the huge split in opinion when it comes to the most-recent movies that help make up the DC Extended Universe (Suicide Squad and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice), DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures will continue on with releasing their slate of upcoming films; with Wonder Woman right around the corner and superhero team-up Justice League following towards the end of the year.

While information surrounding the Justice League film has been trickling out and speculation surrounding the movie’s second trailer dropping in the spring continues, little has been said about the confirmation that Warner Bros recently made of Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor being part of the Justice League cast. Scheduled to make an appearance, rumors now suggest an unlikely location will be visited when Justice League hits the big screen.

The Ultimate Edition of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was released in 2016 and features a slew of scenes that didn’t make the theatrical cut of the movie. One of those saw Batman telling Luthor he would be housed in Arkham Asylum in Gotham City following his capture. So, if we’re to see Luthor in Justice League, it looks as if it’ll be behind the bars in Arkham. In addition to the speculation comes potential evidence in the form of IMDb page listings for Justice League (something Batman-News picked up), with several actors adding their roles to their profiles on the movie database website, such as ‘Arkham Guard’ and ‘Lex Luthor’s Guard’.

If the various members of the Justice League – Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman and a newly-resurrected Superman – are to visit Luthor, it could be possible that they’re going to him for advice on taking on alien threat Steppenwolf. In BVS, we saw Luthor dabbling in the creation of an alien-like creature known as Doomsday, and when Superman was killed the villain gloated about the planet now being vulnerable to alien threats. Despite him being behind bars, Luthor could be a major player in the DCEU movies moving forward.

Bringing the gritty world of Arkham Asylum to the big screen once more following what we saw of it in Suicide Squad could be a great move. However, Eisenberg’s Luthor was definitely a portrayal of the character that fans either loved or hated, so making him a central part of proceedings could be risky. Those behind Justice League will have to make sure they really deliver something special if we’re going back to the compound after the events of Suicide Squad.

With all that being said, visiting Arkham Asylum could mean guest appearances from various other characters in the DCEU. For example, how exciting would it be to see Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in a scene, cracking jokes at the expense of the Caped Crusader and his band of crime-fighters?
