Zack Snyder has confirmed that Ray Porter completed his work as Darkseid in his version of Justice League. The ongoing grassroots push for Snyder’s original version of the superhero ensemble began almost immediately after the movie’s theatrical release in November 2017, when it became clear the film’s notorious reshoots had drastically diverged the film from Snyder’s original plan. However, the closing months of 2019 saw the topic of the “Snyder Cut” simply explode into major mainstream prominence, with the demand for its release seeing a commensurate rise.

The two-year anniversary especially brought the issue to major public and media attention. Not only would a huge swath of Hollywood A-listers, including numerous MCU stars, throw their support behind it, but Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck also took to social media to make their support for its release official. In the midst of the rapidly growing public interest in the Snyder Cut (which the director has effectively re-dubbed “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”), Snyder has done plenty to accelerate that demand with images and storyboards from his version of the film on the social media app Vero.

In Snyder’s latest tease, which features an image of Darkseid (known at this point in the film as “Uxas”) in the history lesson, the director also confirms that Ray Porter completed his role as DC’s supreme villain. Specifically, when asked in the comments if Porter had done motion capture for Darkseid or simply done ADR work for the character, Snyder responded “He did motion capture as well.” Additionally, when asked by another fan if Porter had completed all of his voice work as Darkseid, Snyder matter-of-factly replied “yes.”

Clear teases were made towards Darkseid’s role in Justice League in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, especially in Lex Luthor’s final warning to Batman in the movie, “He’s hungry, he’s found us, and he’s coming!” However, Darkseid, along with many other characters, was completely AWOL from the theatrical version of Justice League and only referenced by name once by Steppenwolf, “For The Unity! For Darkseid!” However, among the many other deviations the theatrical version made from Snyder’s vision, it is now known that Snyder had major plans for Darkseid, as well.

News of Ray Porter’s casting in the role first broke last spring, with Snyder himself offering tacit confirmation on social media. Porter, meanwhile, would offer a tease of his Darkseid voice in advance of last year’s Project Comic-Con, which endeavored to raise awareness of the Snyder Cut at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con. With the presence of the ultimate force of evil in the DC Universe in Snyder’s version of Justice League being one of the major factors driving the ever-increasing demand for its release, news that Porter completed the necessary work to bring the character to life in live-action is sure to be music to the ears of everyone eager to see the Snyder Cut.

At this point, any objective analysis of the Snyder Cut situation can only conclude that the issue has long since penetrated the mainstream zeitgeist (just ask Subway.) Though Warner Bros. has yet to announce any plans for its release, public interest and media attention for it continues to erupt with each social media tease Snyder makes. With the spotlight being on Zack Snyder’s Justice League like never before, it is sure to be one of the hottest topics among superhero movies as 2020 unfolds.
