Zack Snyder has released a new image of Aquaman and Wonder Woman from his unseen and increasingly hyped version of Justice League. The superhero ensemble went through an infamous battery of reshoots that massively diverged the film from what Zack Snyder had planned, Snyder having departed Justice League in the aftermath of a family tragedy. Almost immediately following the movie’s theatrical release in November 2017, an ongoing grassroots campaign began, aimed at convincing Warner Bros. to release Snyder’s original version of the movie, dubbed the “Snyder Cut.” The push for it hasn’t slowed down since.

In fact, the last months of 2019 would see the topic rise to major mainstream prominence, with one cast and crew member after another making their support for it public. The two-year anniversary of the movie’s release made an especially huge impact, with Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck officially supporting it on social media, while a deluge of other high profile celebrities and media personalities would also join in. Meanwhile, Snyder himself kept the fire burning by continuing to release images from his cut of Justice League on the social media platform Vero.

Snyder’s latest tease is an image of Aquaman and Wonder Woman outside of the back of a van, captioned with the words “A little bonding as we raise the dead.” This, of course, refers to the League’s retrieval of Superman’s body in order to revive him in the Genesis Chamber of the Kryptonian Scout Ship. While Snyder’s latest post is indeed a never-before-seen image, it is hardly the first that he’s made relating to this particular section of the movie. It is, in fact, an area he’s visited several times.

One of his earliest Justice League teases showed Arthur Curry, Diana Prince, Barry Allen, and Victor Stone visiting Kal-El’s grave. Snyder later revealed an image of Arthur from the same scene, while a shot of Diana was also released on the movie’s two-year anniversary by Gal Gadot, who accompanied it with the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut hashtag. Snyder would also release an image of the League at the cemetery digging up Superman’s body, which came alongside a collection of other images from the movie posted to social media by Snyder on Christmas Eve as well as on Christmas Day.

Superman’s resurrection was always going to be a major plot point in Justice League. Nevertheless, the attention Snyder has given to this part of the film in his more recent teases is noteworthy. Additionally, the caption placed by Snyder on his latest post suggests the scene as one in which Aquaman and Wonder Woman take some time to converse in his version of the film. Given Aquaman’s status as the gruff loner of the League and Wonder Woman’s efforts to be a peacemaker, this could point to Diana attempting to break the ice with Arthur as the heroes prepare to resurrect Superman. Gadot and Momoa themselves had also alluded to the scene in an earlier interview, shared by Twitter user The Zack Snyder Bible.

The final months of 2019 made it clearer than ever that the Snyder Cut has permeated mainstream discussion, while the movie has effectively been rebranded as “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” by the man himself on a newly released T-shirt. There’s still a lot that remains to be seen about where the matter goes from this point. However, there’s no reason to think that Zack Snyder’s Justice League will see any noticeable dip in public interest and media attention in 2020.
