Warner Bros. has released a second trailer for Destin Daniel Cretton’s new film, Just Mercy. The upcoming drama is adapted from Bryan Stevenson’s memoir of the same name, documenting his experiences as a young attorney. Michael B. Jordan plays Stevenson in the film opposite Jamie Foxx as Walter McMillan, an Alabamian inmate who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for killing a teenaged girl, in spite of the ample evidence proving his innocence. Jordan and Foxx are joined in the cast by Jordan’s fellow MCU actor Brie Larson, who costars as local advocate Eva Ansley.

The marketing for Just Mercy kicked off near the start of September, shortly before the movie made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Early reviews have been generally positive so far, which bodes well for WB’s awards season hopes ahead of the film’s Oscar-qualifying limited run in late December (following by a nationwide expansion in early January). Now, in an effort to keep that good buzz going, another trailer has been unveiled.

Just Mercy’s second promo dropped online this morning, following WB’s announcement yesterday. You can check it out in the space below, followed by the official synopsis:

A powerful and thought-provoking true story, “Just Mercy” follows young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his history-making battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan had his pick of lucrative jobs.  Instead, he heads to Alabama to defend those wrongly condemned or who were not afforded proper representation, with the support of local advocate Eva Ansley (Larson). One of his first, and most incendiary, cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who, in 1987, was sentenced to die for the notorious murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a preponderance of evidence proving his innocence and the fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with a motive to lie. In the years that follow, Bryan becomes embroiled in a labyrinth of legal and political maneuverings and overt and unabashed racism as he fights for Walter, and others like him, with the odds - and the system - stacked against them.
