T-Mobile is making life much easier for customers looking to upgrade their iPhone on a yearly basis. Starting this month, the Uncarrier is allowing customers to enroll in the iPhone Upgrade Program online or via the Apple Store app.
Previously, T-Mobile customers were required to visit an Apple Store to join the iPhone Upgrade Program. The change occurred earlier this month and was highlighted today in a thread on Reddit.
This comes as great news for T-Mobile subscribers, especially as we look towards next month’s launch of three new iPhone models. In past years, T-Mobile customers who wanted to join the iPhone Upgrade Program on pre-order night (iPhone X, for example), were forced to either wait in line on launch day or buy the device at full price and visit an Apple Store.
Now, T-Mobile customers will be able to enroll online or via the Apple Store app, just like users on Verizon, Sprint, or AT&T.
The iPhone Upgrade Program is great for users who upgrade on a yearly basis as it essentially forgoes the carriers altogether. The entire process is managed via Apple, which is especially important when pre-ordering as Apple usually reserves more stock for users ordering through Apple than through carriers.
The program also includes AppleCare+, which grants two accidental damages over two years at $99 per incident for iPhone X users. Not to mention, the phone is completely unlocked from day one, so if your current carrier isn’t working out, you can simply switch to another without having to go through the painful process of trying to get your current carrier to unlock your phone (which typically requires you to pay off the device).
