DeWanda Wise has joined the cast of Jurassic World 3 in a leading role. As implied by its title, the upcoming film will serve as a conclusion to the Jurassic World trilogy that director Colin Trevorrow kicked off in 2015. The threequel will further connect to the events of the movie that started it all, Jurassic Park, by bringing Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum back in their iconic roles as paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant, paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler, and chaotician Ian Malcolm (though Goldblum previously cameoed in last year’s sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom).

Trevorrow will call the shots on Jurassic World 3 from a script he wrote with Emily Carmichael (Pacific Rim Uprising), after only producing and co-writing Fallen Kingdom. Jurassic World leads Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt are set to once again star as Claire Dearing and Owen Grady in the film, and are going to be joined by, at least, a couple new faces in their latest dinosaur-related adventure.

According to Variety, Wise has locked down a leading role in Jurassic World 3, making her the second newcomer to the Jurassic World franchise to join the film’s cast this week after Mamoudoun Athie (Sorry For Your Loss). Additional information about her role is being kept under-wraps for the time being, as are specific details about the movie’s overarching plot.

Fallen Kingdom ended with the dinosaurs of Isla Nublar being let loose in the world, setting the stage for Jurassic World 3 to be the first movie in the trilogy that actually takes place in a, well, Jurassic “world”. Fans got a taste of what that setting will be like with last month’s Battle at Big Rock, a Jurassic World short film that revolves around a family who have a close encounter with some dinosaurs on a camping trip following the events of Fallen Kingdom. The short, which Trevorrow also directed, was generally well-received and did a good job of getting fans excited to see a whole lot more of that in the upcoming trilogy finale.

Wise, for her part, has already started to make a name for herself with her roles on TV series like Netflix and Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It, as well as the streamer’s relationship comedy Someone Great. She’s a welcome addition to the Jurassic World 3 cast all in all, and her role in the film should only make her an even bigger name moving forward. The first two Jurassic World movies got a mixed response overall (in spite of what their billion dollar grosses would suggest), but between the talented cast it’s assembled and its intriguing setup, there’s reason to remain hopeful that Jurassic World 3 will conclude things on a better note.
