The latest update on Jurassic World 2 reveals that the sequel includes an underwater action sequence. With Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow otherwise engaged in working on Star Wars: Episode IX - in addition to his indie film The Book of Henry, which hits theaters in June - the reins to the Jurassic Park movie franchise will be passed off to the critically-acclaimed Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona of A Monster Calls fame (though Trevorrow is still co-writing and producing the Jurassic World sequel).
Ahead of the theatrical release of Jurassic World 2 next summer, there have already been plenty of exclusive looks at the new dinosaur designs soon to be featured in the movie proper - in addition to returning lead actor Chris Pratt hyping what is expected to be a scarier and unexpected Jurassic sequel. In short, fans of the long-running sci-fi property created by late novelist and sporadic filmmaker Michael Crichton, have plenty to look forward to already.
On that note, series newcomer Kevin Lane recently spoke with Management in Stage and Film about his role in Jurassic World 2 as a submarine pilot whose involvement in the film’s script will include a particularly exciting underwater action sequence. Speaking to his excitement towards working with Bayona and company on the new movie, Lane stated:
Jurassic World 2 will include returning lead actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing respectively, with returning franchise heavyweights Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg serving as executive producers. As a part of a cast full of impressive talents in front of and behind the camera, Lane will be in good company once production gets underway.
“I read for two parts, and ended up getting the role of ‘submarine pilot’, which was the role I wanted as it is quite an epic scene. So I should have a nice cinematic moment on screen in a massive studio film. Filming starts in May [so] hopefully I’ll be in one of their amazing contraptions, pretending that there’s dinosaurs around me. I’ve never worked with CGI before so it’s fun and challenging. But I can now say to people ‘You know there’s no dinosaur there right?’”
Only time will tell just how much money Jurassic World 2 will receive at the box office - though based on the unprecedented success that its predecessor met Bayona and company are quite possibly in for another mainstream smash hit. For now, here’s to hoping that the new movie can live up to the storied legacy of the already iconic sci-fi franchise.
