Jurassic Park and Jurassic World auctioning off dinosaur skeletons and costumes. The famed Michael Crichton novel turned Steven Spielberg epic has been going strong since it first took audiences and critics alike by storm in 1993.
With five films so far to its name, Jurassic Park continues to find relevance with a concept that has gone on to build one of the highest grossing media franchises of all time. Unsurprisingly, with that immense popularity comes a dedicated fan base, one that is content not just to watch the films, but to also maintain a keen interest in any and all related merchandise. Aside from the usual action figures, t-shirts and video games, Jurassic Park superfans have seen some pretty interesting related items over the years, such as actual passes to the park in the original 1993 film or a giant sculpture of Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) looking suave as always.
However, for those who want to really go all the way and purchase something truly unique, an upcoming auction in London is a dream come true. A new press release from Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia has revealed that two auctions will take place at the Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction on Monday September 30th and Tuesday October 1st, 2019. Among the items up for grabs in the 900 lots being auctioned off are John Hammond’s (Richard Attenborough) costume and numerous dinosaur skeletons. Below you can check out a more detailed list of the authentic collectors items that will be available:
- Mounted 5-Foot Tyrannosaurus Rex Skull from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018). Estimated £20k - 30k ($25k - 35k)
If you happen to be in London, want to check out the Jurassic Park memorabilia but don’t quite have the wallet for it, don’t worry. A free public preview exhibition of the items will take place from September 18 – October 1st at the BFI Imax. And if you happen to be a massive Jurassic Park who doesn’t live in London and who couldn’t afford anything at the auction anyway, you can still get in on the fun by watching the auction’s livestream, which will be available on the day of the auction, through Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia. As for those who are serious about bidding, registration for the event is currently taking place at the Prop Store website.
- Diorama Room 22-foot Peloroplites Skeleton from JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (2018). Estimate £55k - 75k ($67k - 90k) John Hammond’s (Richard Attenborough) Costume from JURASSIC PARK (1993). Estimate £15k - 25k ($18k - 30k) Dinosaur Handler Costume from JURASSIC PARK (1993). Estimate £2k - 3k ($2.5k - 3.5k) Diorama Room Five-foot-Nine Velociraptor Skeleton from JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM (2018). Estimate £12k - 15k ($14k - 18k) Owen Grady’s (Chris Pratt) Screen-Matched Hero “Marlin” Rifle from JURASSIC WORLD (2015). Estimate £3k - 5k ($3.5k - 6k)
For most people, spending $30,000 on the costume that Richard Attenborough wore when he uttered the famed “We spared no expense” line, or dropping thousands on a mounted T-Rex skull isn’t the most sensible way to spend some money. However, Jurassic Park has actually been recognized by the Library of Congress as being culturally significant, meaning that memorabilia from the beloved franchise is arguably an important part of history.
