Jules Wainstein isn’t ashamed of her past and opened up about her eating disorder on the Real Housewives of New York City. She felt misunderstood by her cast members and wants to set the record straight.
Wainstein has only documented her life on The Real Housewives of New York City for one season. She has stepped away from the cameras after season 8. She left the franchise to focus on her children, son Jagger, 11, and daughter Rio, 8. The 38-year-old has been going through a divorce from Michael Wainstein after 8 years of marriage. The divorce announcement first came back in June 2016. Lately, Wainstein’s weight has been a hot topic of conversation. Almost all of her co-stars has had a comment on about it, that or her eating habits.
In an exclusive sneak peek at Bravo’s new digital series, Life After Bravo (via People), the Real Housewife said she has no regrets when she talked about her eating disorder on the show. On the show, she talked about her lifelong struggle with anorexia and bulimia, even admitting to having a binge-and-purge moment while filming. Wainstein goes on to say how eating disorders are a very secretive disease and it was a huge part of her recovery to speak on it. She explained, “I always say, secrets kept you sick. Speaking about it, then, I could do the opposite,” she added. The digital series will have former Bravo celebrities looking back at their time on reality TV. Her fellow Housewives were left confused by her purges while filming and often left the ladies to question her recovery on camera.
Wainstein felt misunderstood by her costars and that they gave her a hard time while filming. She said, “They were like, “[Gasp] You’re so sick!’ I’m like, ‘No! That’s so amazing of me to tell you that because someone who is sick won’t tell you that because they’re sick.” Wainstein thinks that if she did a second season then people would have a better understanding of her recovery. Since filming The Real Housewives of New York City, she has received “thousands of letters, DM’s Facebook [messages], and tweets” from strangers voicing how much she’s helped them while in their own recovery. Wainstein remembers being so emotional after receiving the messages and that it was all worth to go through in order to give others hope.
Although, she explained that her battle with this disease will be a neverending struggle, she has been on the up and up. She wanted her fans to know that she lives her life just like anyone else. It’s been 17 years that Wainstein has been in recovery. She has been a bright light to all of the other people suffering with eating disorders and fans can continue to follow her journey throughout this season.
