Jordan Peele’s much-anticipated revival of The Twilight Zone has added Ginnifer Goodwin to the cast. The new series will be a follow-up to the original Twilight Zone that aired during the late ’50s and ’60s.
Created and narrated by Rod Sterling, the original Twilight Zone took its audience on a journey of horror, suspense, and mystery with each episode featuring a unique standalone story. In the new series, Peele take over for Sterling, while also serving as executive producer; and he has demonstrated his familiarity with the genre with his Academy Award-winning film Get Out, as well as his upcoming film Us. That said, very little has been revealed about the new Twilight Zone’s aesthetic, and the only official footage relating to the show was in its Super Bowl TV spot that introduced Peele as the new host. Now, with anticipation growing just as quickly as its cast, Ginnifer Goodwin has also been brought aboard to star.
According to ComingSoon, character details for Goodwin (as well as most details about the series) are still under wraps, but it was announced that she will star alongside James Frain (Star Trek: Discovery) and Zabryna Guevara (The Handmaid’s Tale) for an episode title “Point of Origin.” Goodwin has proven her versatility as an actor with her roles in Big Love, Walk The Line, and Once Upon a Time, and other actors who have joined the cast include Greg Kinnear, Steven Yeun, Jacob Tremblay, and Taissa Farmiga.
The Twilight Zone ended in 1964, but Peele’s revival is not the first attempt to bring viewers back into the paranormal void. In 1983, Twilight Zone: The Movie was a film divided into four segments that updated classic tales from the series. The show was then revived again by CBS for three seasons in 1985, and then again in 2002 for a single season narrated by Forest Whitaker.
Over the past couple of years, audiences have found themselves thrust into the black and white vortex of nostalgia with reboots and revivals of beloved shows, such as The X-Files, Full House, and Unsolved Mysteries - and the blasts from the past aren’t showing signs of slowing down with more reboots in the works. The Twilight Zone was a staple in the the world of sci-fi, and the premise shocked the nation, serving as an allegory to the darker corners of everyday society. It’s only right that Peele takes the reins after taking a similar approach with Get Out, and he promises to add a modern twist to his version, while staying true to the heart of classic Twilight Zone episodes.

The Twilight Zone will premiere on April 1, 2019 on CBS All Access.
