A new poster for Todd Phillips’ Joker is released as tickets for the film officially go on sale. Although Joker is one of the most well-known Batman villains, Phillips decided to take a different approach to the character’s back story. Joker is a standalone movie not connected to any previous iterations of the character.

In Joker, Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck, a man with mental health problems who succumbs to madness, and in doing so, creates the Joker persona. Joker early reviews have been mostly positive, and it has even sparked Oscar buzz. After receiving a standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival, Joker went on to win the Golden Lion there, the highest prize of the event. It has become evident that Joker is not a typical comic book movie. The R-rated venture is different from anything DC or Marvel has done with its comic book properties. Because of this, Joker has quickly become one of the most anticipated movies of the year, leaving fans clamoring to get their hands on tickets.

The good news is that fans no longer have to wait to get tickets for Joker. Fandango released a new poster for the film and announced tickets are now officially on sale:

Joker is not without its controversy, though. The film tells the story of a man who becomes violent after being rejected. After the Joker film’s script leaked online, many argued it made Arthur Fleck too sympathetic. This lead many to worry this portrayal of the character will support incel violence and even lead to acts of terrorism. After all, it was only seven years ago when gunman James Holmes entered a theater in Aurora, Colorado, ultimately killing 12 people and injuring 58 others. At the time, he had bright orange hair, leaving many to compare him to the Clown Prince of Gotham. Since then, mass shootings in the U.S. have only increased, and the political climate has become more heated.

Will these concerns affect Joker’s box office take? Analysts suggest it could open at $82 million, breaking the October opening weekend record currently held by Venom. Joker could potentially make over $800 million globally. Now that tickets are on sale, everyone will soon know if those analysts are correct. DC Comics fans will undoubtedly flock to see Joker on Oct. 4, thanks to the buzz surrounding it, as well as its unique take on a comic book villain story.
