The dispute between Apple and Epic Games has been going on for about two weeks now, but this is probably just the beginning of a long legal fight. Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who is hearing the case, said today that she is “inclined” not to require Apple to allow Fortnite on the App Store, but also that the decision to terminate Epic’s developer account may be reversed. On August 13, Fortnite was updated to include Epic’s own payment system that let players buy in-game items for lower prices....

John Nack, Adobe’s principal product manager, has taken to his usual forum on the Adobe blogs to share a new HTML5 gallery recently debuted by developer Felix Turner. Turner is known for his PostcardViewer and other Photoshop-compatible image gallery applications that inspired Adobe to include Flash support in Photoshop’s built-in Photo Gallery. Turner’s new HTML5 gallery, called “Juicebox“, also works through Photoshop and Lightroom plug-ins (or through the company’s own app), and it has impressive options for iOS galleries....

Today is the premiere of Knives Out on Blu-ray and DVD, and fans eagerly await more news about the upcoming sequel. But yesterday was a milestone of another kind: the world premiere of the film on 35mm. In partnership with American Cinematheque, a non-profit organization aimed at preserving the legacy of film, director Rian Johnson introduced the very first projection and the only 35mm print of his Oscar-nominated whodunnit. Johnson himself is a big fan of shooting in 35mm, but Knives Out is the first film he and cinematographer Steve Yedlin (with whom he collaborated on both Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi) have shot entirely digitally....

Robogaia Industries is using Kickstarter to seek funding for a product called Kalt, an infrared sensor that plugs into an iPhone’s headphone jack and turns the smartphone into a precise, non-contact thermometer. The Cleveland-based company is looking to raise $10,000 over the next three weeks to cover development and manufacturing costs. The palm-sized Kalt sensor reads the infrared energy that an object omits and converts it into readable temperatures in Fahrenheit, Celsius or Kelvin....

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out with a new investor note today detailing Apple’s roadmap for virtual reality and augmented reality products. Kuo predicts that Apple will release a new “helmet type” headset with AR and VR capabilities, followed by AR glasses in 2025 and eventually an AR contact lens product between 2030-2040. AR/VR headset in 2022: As for the AR and VR headset coming as soon as next year, Kuo says that current prototypes currently weigh between 200 grams and 300 grams....

The incident was allegedly caused by an argument over steroid use. Spivey was best known for his four-year role as a bailiff on Justice For All with Judge Cristina Perez, a courtroom reality show that aired from 2012 to 2016. Although he did play the part for TV, in reality, Spivey also served as a deputy with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in Houston since 1998....
